Elon Musk-led SpaceX’s Starlink has begun its first phase of hiring in India, marking a major step toward the company’s entry into the country’s satellite broadband market. The recruitment drive—focused on finance and accounting roles—signals Starlink’s operational readiness as it builds local infrastructure and complies with India’s satcom regulations ahead of launch.

Hiring Drive in Bengaluru
According to job listings on the SpaceX careers portal and LinkedIn, Starlink is recruiting for four key positions: Accounting Manager, Payments Manager, Senior Treasury Analyst, and Tax Manager. All roles are based in Bengaluru, which serves as the company’s Indian operational hub.

In its listing, SpaceX said, “As Starlink expands its global footprint to deliver its low-latency satellite broadband services worldwide, its Indian subsidiary is looking to hire an accounting manager to oversee financial reporting and compliance.”

The accounting manager role will oversee financial reporting, statutory compliance, and internal controls. The payments manager position will handle end-to-end payment processing and risk management for domestic methods such as UPI, RuPay, and cards. The senior treasury analyst will build local treasury infrastructure, manage foreign exchange operations, and coordinate with Starlink’s global finance teams. Meanwhile, the tax manager will focus on direct and indirect tax compliance, transfer pricing, and audit coordination.

Starlink has stated that all positions are 100% onsite and limited to candidates with valid work authorisation in India, ruling out remote or hybrid work options.

Regulatory and Security Framework
The hiring move comes as Starlink works toward a commercial launch in India by late 2025 or early 2026. The company is currently conducting security demonstrations for the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and law enforcement agencies to secure final clearance.

Officials said Starlink has applied for 600 gigabit per second capacity through its Gen 1 satellite constellation, with spectrum provisionally assigned for compliance testing. The company has also received approval to import 100 terminals, restricted to fixed satellite service trials only.

Authorities have imposed strict operational conditions to ensure national security. Starlink has been instructed that only Indian nationals may operate its gateway stations until foreign staff obtain clearance from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.

Ground Infrastructure and Expansion
Starlink has sought permission to establish nine gateway earth stations across India—including Mumbai, Noida, Chandigarh, Kolkata, and Lucknow—as part of its network infrastructure plan. Currently, the company has set up three ground stations in Mumbai, which will serve as a hub for its initial rollout.

Data generated during security trials must be stored locally in India, and Starlink must share details of all terminals and their locations with the DoT and security agencies every fortnight. Law enforcement authorities will have inspection rights over the equipment and data.

Industry Competition
Starlink is the third company after Eutelsat OneWeb and Jio Satellite Communications to receive airwaves for demonstrating security compliance. While all three companies hold preliminary authorisations, they are still awaiting final spectrum allocation. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) and the DoT are in the process of finalising pricing and allocation frameworks for satellite broadband spectrum.

As Starlink builds its local financial and regulatory teams through new hires, it is positioning itself for a phased entry into India’s satcom market, which is expected to expand rapidly with growing demand for high-speed connectivity in remote and underserved regions.
