Everton's Carabao Cup clash delayed due to problems with new Hill Dickinson Stadium

Everton's clash with Mansfield has been put back by 15 minutes due to delays getting fans into Hill Dickinson Stadium. The Toffees' Carabao Cup second-round clash will now start at 8pm.

Everton statement said: "Please note that kick-off in tonight’s Carabao Cup tie has been delayed 15 minutes until 8pm. This is to ensure all supporters have safe access into Hill Dickinson Stadium in time for kick-off."

The issues revolve around the use of digital tickets, which has delayed fans getting into the stadium and ultimately caused lengthy queues. This is Everton's second competitive fixture at their new home following Sunday's win over Brighton in the Premier League. Goals from Iliman Ndiaye and James Garner secured victory for David Moyes' men on their debut in their new home.

And speaking after that game, forward Ndiaye expressed his hope for the new stadium to usher in a new period of success for the Merseysiders.

He said: “That’s a target. We’ve got a new stadium and obviously we want to change what’s been going on for the last few seasons; change the way we do things.

“Our target is to win trophies, basically. I feel like we’ve always wanted to look forward. Obviously things can happen that you can’t control, but we’ve always tried to look forward. Now it’s a new project, a new stadium, things like that. It’s kind of like a new start.”

He added: “Last season wasn’t too great but we finished strong, which we needed for us, for the fans and the stadium because we were leaving.

“But coming to this new stadium, we’ve got obviously new expectations, new targets and a new manager who’s been here for half of last season.

“It’s just about aiming high and I feel like the whole squad is in the same bubble. Everyone’s thinking the same so I just want to aim high.”

Should they beat Mansfield side, Everton will find out their opponents immediately after, with the draw for the third round set to take place on Wednesday evening.

However, it will have a slightly different look this time around with a pre-draw having been conducted to decide whether each of the Premier League's European contingent will be home or away for the third round. Each of those sides will be kept separate.

Following Wednesday's clash with Mansfield, Everton then turn themselves back to Premier League action and a trip to Wolves. Everton's next home game pits them against Aston Villa after the international break.
