Supreme Court Issues Notice to Assam BJP Over Controversial AI Video Alleging Defamation of Muslims

Send Push

The Supreme Court of India has issued notices to the Assam government, the Assam unit of the BJP, and social media platform X over a controversial AI-generated video shared by Assam BJP. The video allegedly portrayed the Muslim community in a negative light, attempting to sow fear by suggesting that if the BJP lost elections in Assam, Muslims would dominate the state. The video sparked outrage among Muslim organizations and civil society members who accused the BJP of trying to disrupt communal harmony for electoral gains.

The bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta took cognizance of a petition filed by lawyer Nizam Pasha seeking the removal of the video. The court's notice marks the beginning of a legal process to examine the matter further. Various political commentators and leaders, including AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, condemned the video as defamatory and genocidal, calling it part of a broader agenda to marginalize Muslims.

This case highlights the growing concern over misuse of AI technology for misinformation and hate speech on digital platforms. The outcome of the court proceedings is awaited as the nation watches closely how such sensitive issues are dealt with legally.
