Our joke, woke, two-tiered justice system is about to get a whole lot worse as Keir and his bunch of halfwits bring forward their Sentencing Bill on Tuesday. This bill should be renamed, the Anti-sentencing Bill, for its aim is to reduce the length of prison terms and send fewer people to prison. And all because this misguided Labour Government believe that it's better to have criminals out in the community than in prison.
Their assertion is that short jail sentences don't work. Of course, for many they don't - that's because they should be getting much longer ones. Virtually all of these repeat offenders have already done community services and already worn tags. These haven't worked. They need to be sent to prison, not be met with even more lenient sentences.
These offenders are literally laughing all the way to their next crime. The second excuse given, and being pushed by Ministry of Justice lefty civil servants, is there aren't enough prison places.
This isn't new. I resisted their siren calls when I was in Cabinet, helping to make sure that the last Conservative government ignored their advice and kept prisoners where they should be... locked up.
The simple answer to "not enough places" is to build more. The solution is NOT to let offenders out and send fewer there.
We managed to build temporary hospitals during Covid, and we have found accommodation at any cost for illegal immigrants. So I'm sure we can build more prison places too.
One part of this Bill before Parliament today, gives suspended sentences to anyone who'd currently be sent to prison for 12 months or less, thereby leaving them free in the community. Another changes the proportion of time those sentenced will actually spend in jail to a minimum of just one third.
To say this Bill is a disaster for law-abiding citizens is an understatement. So, to that end I have tabled amendments to at least try to limit some of the worst parts of this bill.
For example, I've said those already released early from prison and out on licence should not be eligible for this presumption in favour of a suspended sentence for offending again when they should really still be locked up.
This should not need saying - but it seems it does for as it currently stands Labour's Bill will allow someone already released early from prison, to have a second "get out of jail" free card.
I have also tabled an amendment to exclude knife crime. Otherwise under this legislation, the presumption will be not to send these criminals to prison. The same applies to some of those with firearms and even for some terror-related offences.
As the Bill currently stands, the presumption against immediate custody applies to a whole host of other nasty, violent and sexual crimes.
This disaster of a Sentencing Bill is about to make our streets a whole lot less safe for the public at large and reward criminals. The silent majority need to stop being silent about this scandal.

Virginia Giuffre's memoir "Nobody's Girl" comes out today - it's just tragic she isn't alive to see it, having taken her own life in April.
Neglected and abused all her life, starting with her parents, she's now haunting all those who hurt her from beyond the grave. The ghost of Virginia will be around for some time.

Was it Fergie who sent Andrew off the rails? He was riding high until the mid 1980s - a hero of the Falklands War, supposedly the Queen's favourite son and certainly the best looking one.
Then came Fergie. As a couple they have always seemed to bring out the worst in each other. From the royal It's A Knockout, through John Bryan and the toe-sucking incident, to their gauche "South York" home, they came across as cringeworthy and crude.
They were also a couple living beyond their means which brought them into contact with less savoury characters and got them embroiled with Jeffrey Epstein. Whatever bond they have, it doesn't seem healthy, but adversity will probably keep them more tightly tied together than ever.

Incredibly even Tony Blair has made it clear that immigration needs to be tackled.
He's come around to Kemi Badenoch's point of view that illegal immigrants should not be allowed to claim asylum. There can be no back door route into the UK.
Sadly, Keir Starmer remains preoccupied with his pathetic "one-in, one-out" scheme with France which, to date, has sent 42 to France which allows France to send an extra 42 refugees to the UK, on top of the scores of thousands who have come across in dinghies under Labour.
Seems the only person who can't see Starmer's immigration policies aren't working is Starmer himself.

I've been deeply disturbed by the situation in Corby - "Toxic Town", as the Netflix drama referred to it - where dozens of children have been diagnosed with cancer reportedly due to the negligent clean-up of the steelworks.
The shameful episode is exacerbated by the council's current stance not to reveal where the contaminated toxic waste could be buried, saying it's not in the public interest.
If revealing this information - which could help solve the mystery of why so many children there have been diagnosed with cancer - is not of public interest, then what on earth do they think is?
I hope public demand for this information grows and North Northamptonshire council is forced to back down.

It's bad enough that Labour is presiding over an utter shambles. It is even worse that they are risking our national security in kowtowing to China.
We have already had the collapse of the Chinese spy case, and the failure to stop the Chinese mega embassy in central London, which the security services consider to be a risk to the UK, and now it's the possible sale of Thames Water - which serves 16 million customers - to Hong Kong-based CK Infra-structure (CKI). All pose serious national security risks to the UK.
And yet Starmer does absolutely nothing.
He is a weak, weak man allowing himself to be bullied and the UK to be sold down the river.
