An expert has advised UK households to use one common home appliance to help dry their bed sheets this winter. Bed sheets can be a bit of a nightmare to get dry. They are bulky, so it is hard to fit them all on an airer. And when you don't own a tumble dryer, you could be waiting a couple of days for sheets to dry after hanging them up inside.
The UK experienced ideal drying weather this summer, with a slew of heatwaves making forone of the hottest summers on record. You probably got your bed sheets dry in no time over the summer months. However, it is a completely different story in winter, as the weather outside gets colder and often wetter, and clothes and bedding are hung up to dry inside homes rather than on washing lines in gardens. While you wait a long time for your bedsheets to dry, you could be using a home appliance you have tucked away in storage.
The trick? Use a desk fan to create air circulation. This works as a good substitute for the natural air circulation you probably aren't getting in your home throughout the winter months. As it is cold outside, we aren't in much of a rush to open our windows to let fresh air in.
However, a desk fan might just do the trick. This is a purchase that many people in the UK made this year as we dealt with a significant number of hot weather spells over the summer. But now, they are probably gathering dust in storage.
It is among the tips shared by bedding experts Mattress Next Day. "A cheaper alternative to buying a dehumidifier, it is possible to recreate the same effect of this appliance by placing a fan by your bedding while it dries and using it to circulate fresh air past it," they revealed.
"By circulating fresh air around your washing, the change in humidity will encourage evaporation, albeit at a slower rate than with a dehumidifier. Please note, however, that in order for this method to be most effective, you ideally want to open a window to enable full air circulation, which is not ideal if it's particularly cold outside."
In addition to this, they suggest hanging them in your bathroom if you have an extractor fan, and trying an extra spin cycle to get rid of some of the moisture.
