Where was Mayor of Kingstown filmed? Inside filming locations for hit Paramount+ drama

Send Push

Mayor of Kingstown fans are curious to know where the show is actually filmed as the hugely successful crime drama returns to Paramount+.

The hit series starring Jeremy Renner and created by Yellowstone mastermind Taylor Sheridan aired its fourth season premiere this past Sunday (26th October).

Set in the fictional company town of Kingstown, Michigan, Renner portrays Mike McLusky, the unofficial 'Mayor' who helps keep the peace between cops, gangs and the inmates of the extensive local prison system.

Season four will take Mike's story in an entirely new direction as a new mob boss from Detroit arrives to take over where the Russians left off. Meanwhile, he also has a zealous new prison warden to contend with at Anchor Bay.

But where is this intense crime drama actually filmed? Let's take a look at some of the confirmed locations.

Where is Mayor of Kingstown filmed?

Although the crime-ridden Michigan town might feel very real, Kingstown is actually fictional and inspired by a city in Canada, Kingston, Ontario, where much of the first season was shot.

These scenes were largely shot in Kingston Penitentiary, while other parts of the season were shot in Toronto at Stratagem Studios.

Hamilton and Burlington, both in Ontario, were also popular filming locations for the series.

Subsequent seasons have since moved production to Pennsylvania, primarily Pittsburgh. However, season two also shot at the Lampe Marina and Presque Isle Bay near Erie, Pennsylvania.

The latest instalment has remained in Pittsburgh, including familiar spots like Brighton Heights and O'Brien's bar.

River Road in Mckeesport, PA, is also often used for car chase sequences, as well as Carson Street.

Finally, the real-life police station McKees Rocks Police Department in Pittsburgh takes the place of the show's King County Sheriff's Office when Mike needs to liaise with the local law enforcement.

Series lead Renner has admitted to finding the filming schedule "arduous" as he's often outside "in the freezing cold" for 14-18 hours straight.

Mayor of Kingstown has also presented a challenge for the Avengers star as it's his first major gig since his snowplough accident on New Year's Day 2023.

He told People last year: "I don't know if I'm looking forward to it. Again, I try to just do everything kind of step by step here. That's one foot in front of the other one. Then you're walking."

The actor also admitted he's "scared of slipping and falling" as he no longer has all of his "lower body strength", though stressed he was also "excited" to return to set.

Mayor of Kingstown season 4 continues Sundays on Paramount+.
